The term Health Coach almost seems to be a “buzz” word these days.  While just a few years ago no one seemed to be familiar with the term, today it seems to have caught on.  Health Coaches have a place in many health practices and play a crucial role in working privately as well.  As a Health Adviser, I take the concept to another level.  The focus is to recognize potential risk of disease based on a persons’ lifestyle.  We look at several factors to make this determination: food, environment, relationships, career, spirituality and exercise.  While this may not seem all that significant, studies have proven that these factors play an even greater role in health than genetics.  And to evaluate these factors, we implement the use of blood and urine tests to take a deeper dive into your health.

Once we review a person’s health history and the lab results, we make recommendations to incorporate alternatives to their current habits, thus reducing the risk of developing disease.  We also help implement these changes and at a pace that is comfortable for the individual.  Contrary to popular belief, these changes can even turn off your genetic tendencies.  That’s right – you limit the effect that genetics has on your health. This has now been studied to great extent and is being seen in many health disciplines.  You really are in control of your health.  Up to 85% of all chronic illness and disease is avoidable.  It all starts with education, awareness, and implementation. Coming from a family with a long history of heart disease, I had always feared being a victim of my genetics, of not being around to watch my children grow.  It was such a relief to hear that I had some control of my future!  It gave me so much hope.  The question for me then was, where do I start?  What is “good” food, what kind of exercise and how much, what else needs to be considered?  Though I considered myself to be “healthy”, I had no idea how to measure my health? This was my original motive for becoming a Health Coach but after receiving my certification in 2013 I still felt a disconnect between health and disease.  If lifestyle determines health, what measures it?  This is what I’ve focused my energy on the past four years.  I’ve spent hundreds of hours researching how to establish clear markers that indicate early stages of disease.  My knowledge goes far beyond that of a typical health “coach.” In 2016, I began putting my discoveries to work by testing them on my husband and myself.  The results have been amazing.  We have both learned a lot about ourselves and the different things we need to focus on specific to our bodies.  We’ve made changes that will prevent a future of ill health and being on the medical merry-go-round. This could change our whole future.   Without this research, neither of us would have even known to look at these things. Along with these positive results, my journey had come full circle.  The answers I were searching for became evident and proven through resaerch and experimentation.  This is the premises for my Advanced Health Coaching – a comprehensive understanding of holistic health practices; using specific tests to uncover “real” concerns’; providing the tools and support to make the necessary changes. I have worked with many people who are frustrated and emotional because no one seems to understand them.   Often, they are labeled with an illness without the real detecitve work being done.  Symptoms don’t determine disease, tests do.  Symptoms indicate an underlying problem, and drugs simply mask them.  At some point the problem will become more significant and fiercer.
